Obstetrics Information

Thank you for choosing Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates of Hampton for your obstetrical care.  We are honored that you have chosen our practice to share in your care.  We look forward to helping to guide you through this exciting period of your life, and want to make sure that you are well informed during your pregnancy, delivery and the postpartum period. Below are links to information and topics that you may find useful during the course of your pregnancy.  If you have any questions or need advice at any point during your care, please do not hesitate to contact one of our providers.  If you have a question that you would like answered prior to your next scheduled appointment, you may contact us online, or telephone our triage nurse at 722-7401, who is available to answer questions, or will forward it to the appropriate provider.

Our office telephones are open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday for questions and non-urgent matters.   If you feel your question or problem is urgent, we provide 24 hour on-call coverage. You may contact our answering service directly at 875-9489, or if you call our main office telephone number (757) 722-7401, they will connect you to the answering service to leave a message for the on call provider to return your call.

If you have any emergency, if your water breaks, or if you believe you are in labor (please see labor guidelines) please proceed to Mary Immaculate Hospital where you will be evaluated.

You will see one of our nurse practitioners for your first obstetrical visit. The following four physicians will be continuing your care during the pregnancy and assisting you with your delivery:

Dr. Naved Jafri
Dr. Obaid Jafri
Dr. Alisa Wolner
Dr. Thomas Basco

In addition, our Nurse Practitioners, Karen Brophy, and Kathy Akridge, will see you from time to time for routine prenatal care.

One to two weekends per month, our group is covered for emergencies and deliveries by the physicians of Peninsula Women's Care--Dr. Kathy O'Connell, and Dr. Elisabeth Curtis.

The providers at Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates of Hampton work as a team, managing your care, so you will reap the collective benefit of their expertise.  Also, by operating as a group practice, this allows the providers to attend courses and seminars so that they stay current regarding changes in their specialty.  We encourage you to meet all of our providers during the course of the pregnancy as any of them may be involved in your care.   We look forward to serving you!
